Making Clothes Is Not Sustainable.
We believe honesty is essential. While making clothes cannot be entirely sustainable, we are committed to designing better quality, longer lasting products and continuously improving our practices to minimize our impact. We recognize that, as humans, our presence on Earth inevitably leaves a footprint. The best we can do is try to reduce that impact and contribute to a healthier planet.
As a small business producing in low quantities, our overall impact positive or negative is limited compared to larger companies. That said, we strive to make responsible choices and encourage others to do the same.
Regarding materials, organic and conventional cotton require significant water use, and recycled nylons and polyesters can release microplastics during washing. Recycling can sometimes perpetuate existing poor practices by creating demand for those products. We don't have all the answers but aim to be thoughtful about how we operate, prioritizing people and the planet.
We offer a free repair service to extend the life of our products, aiming to create more durable items. Our packaging is made from recycled materials, and we avoid single-use plastics, opting for recycled plastics when necessary. Our production process minimizes waste, and we make conscious choices to use more natural materials over synthetics, though when we do utilize synthetics, we prefer recycled nylon and polyester.
We hope to be part of a shifting system towards better practices, and we invite you to join the conversation. If you'd like to discuss any of this, please reach out to us at info@liteyear.us.
Thank you for supporting our journey toward a more mindful existence.
